Synopsis: Paddington 2 is an animation, adventure and comedy type movie. The movie is about the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it.The world of Paddington is much as we left it. It’s London, but a version far removed from reality, where even newsagents live in multimillion-pound Georgian villas — as fantastical a notion as a talking bear. It’s now, but not. People use cassette tapes, steam trains pootle past in the background, everyone has a landline, yet kids wear Kanye-esque shutter shades and T-shirts with LCD panels, and a main character works in The Shard. It’s a time that’s never been; a very subtle form of fantasy. There, Paddington lives with the Brown family, beloved by all. When he sets his heart on buying his elderly aunt a pop-up book, which is beyond his budget, he has to save to up. Just a day away from earning enough, the book is stolen. In trying to apprehend the thief, Paddington is arrested as a suspect, sent to jail and the Brown family have to fight to clear his name. Paddington 2, 6.5 out of 10 based on 2 ratings. In the distant future, the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo are on their way home when they pick up a distress call from a distant moon. The crew are under obligation to investigate and the spaceship descends on the moon afterwards. After a rough landing, three crew members leave the spaceship to explore the area on the moon. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a distress call. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew realizes that they are not alone on the spaceship and they must deal with the consequences. Alien.the creature.the film.the legend. The one that started it all, the one that led to one of the greatest sequels ever made, one that got a comic book mini-series and 2 cross-over films with 'Predator'. This is THE film. And without a doubt, the greatest horror film ever created, and this totally makes 'Halloween' look like 'Chicken Little'. You can forget about all those rubbish 'Friday the 13th' or 'Nightmare on Elm Street' movies, 'cause 'Alien' just takes horror up to so many levels! In 'Alien', we find ourselves in the distant future with a crew just coming back from a haul of 20 million tons of ore back to Earth. But while the crew members are in stasis, their ship picks up an 'SOS' from a nearby planet, and once the crew is awakened, they are forced by the 'Company' regulations to follow that signal. And then when they land on the planet and it turns out that something terrifying is in store for them, when a hostile organism attaches itself to one of the crew members. And later on, it becomes clear that the crew member was being impregnated and then dies a horrible, violent death from a deadly breed of an other-worldly life-form. And now the rest of the crew must fight off the creature. As other classic films should always have, 'Alien' does great on the characters. And of course, the most recognizable one is the lead woman, Ellen Ripley who is played then-unknown Sigourney Weaver. She provides a very human face and you're gonna feel like you're actually watching a real-life woman in here, and it could be because of her accent, or her mannerisms. But as the film progresses, she develops into a more mentally tougher woman while combating the Alien. Overview of Prometheus 2, 2017, directed by Ridley Scott, with Rebecca Ferguson, Goran D. There are times when she totally keeps it cool, times when she's afraid, times when she's angry, and times when its just Ripley being Ripley. And thanks to Weavers acting talents, she can really dish out one hell of a character. The rest of the supporting cast are nothing short of spectacular, Parker and Brett are the selfish, sarcastic men who only want to make a profit. And through most of the film, you can feel the tension that Ripley and Parker have. Lambert, who one of my favorites from here is the second woman who happens to be the opposite of Ripley, a total coward. Dallas, who the viewer might get the vibe that HE is the main character in the 1st 15 minutes or so, is pretty much the leader here. Kane, is the tired, dead-looking guy who is the one that carries the alien species inside of him. And finally, Ash is the one with the sinister purpose and you start to suspect that he's up to no good at some point. And movie characters need to have their own personalities and that's what 'Alien' has. And as for the Alien itself, well what can i say? It is the most horrifying creature in the history of cinema, period. I mean, how could you stop it? It has acid for blood, and is very lethal to fight face-to-face. And the special effects were over 20 years ahead of its time. The face-hugger on Kane looked so freaking real, that you're gonna be scared just by looking at it, even it doesn't do anything except breathe most of the time. And the sets couldn't have been better, very futuristic, yet there's always something ominous and dark about them. The suspense is impossible to resist as the sequences deliver the chills at times when you least expect it, and when you do expect something to happen, nothing happens. And 'Alien' is one of the very few horror films that understands that you can't scare people by raking up the bodies and the blood, but you have to build up the suspense to do it. And director Ridley Scott is such a genius, and he shows that here, he absolutely knows how to make any kind of film, ones that can scare (Alien), one that can sadden (Thelma and Louise), and one that can excite/thrill (Gladiator). And Ridley really keeps up the dark atmosphere, especially in the beginning when there's no talking for the 1st 5 minutes or so, we get the feeling that something's not right all the time. Some parts are very quiet and very depressing and we feel exactly what we see. This is the legend that I'm talking about here, folks. Don't miss the chance to see this, because it will scare the living daylights outta you more than any other movie you're gonna see in your life. Take my word for it.I'm practically a movie buff, so I know what I'm talking about. PreRip is a free option on select CD's displaying the PreRip icon. PADDINGTON 2 finds Paddington happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy's hundredth birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber's antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it's up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief. Helmed by twice BAFTA nominated director Paul King, PADDINGTON 2 is co-produced by multi award-winning David Heyman / Heyday Films (producer of all eight of the HARRY POTTER films, GRAVITY, THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM) and StudioCanal, who will also distribute in the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. PADDINGTON is based on the best-selling and internationally adored series of children's stories by British author Michael Bond, which have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide, been translated into over 40 languages and captured the imagination of children and adults around the globe. ½ Adorable, clever, and beautiful to watch are things I would say about Paddington. These traits do not only exist in it's sequel, in many ways they are surpassed. Paddington 2 picks up where the first left off spreading a message of friendship and family bonds throughout but P2 blows past the first installment with a fairly exciting adventure plot that the first film din't quite hit as hard. Hugh Grant was likely born to play this role as he steals almost every scene in which he appears making a great foil for our protagonists. He by far had the stand out performance. Paddington 2 is full of heart and joy. It's has a few laughs, the kids will enjoy it, and it is packed with a lot of great supporting performances. In a genre where far too many kids sequels fall flat, Paddington 2 stands out among the crowd. Paddington Bear is back in another adventure of his since 2014's (2015 elsewhere) Paddington. Remarkable in every single way possible, Paddington 2 manages to become the first real success I was looking for since 2018 just started. Sure Paddington Bear isn't as popular in the United States as he is in the United Kingdom, but I can guarantee that these adaptations deserve more attention than what we expect to see at the box office. If you are looking for a new movie to see in January, Paddington 2 is obviously your ticket. Station location map. And serve the station. Layout of Paddington Station in 1888 The National Rail station is officially named London Paddington, a name commonly used outside London but rarely by Londoners, who call it just Paddington, as on the. This same practice applies to all the London mainline rail termini, except London Bridge. Parts of the station, including the main, date from 1854, when it was built by as the London terminus for the (GWR). It is one of nineteen stations managed. Great Western Railway [ ] After several false starts, Brunel announced the construction of a railway from Bristol to London on 30 July 1833. This became the GWR, and he intended it to be the best railway in the country. The GWR had originally planned to terminate London services at as this allowed them to use part of the 's track into the station, which would have been cost effective. This received government approval in 1835, but was rejected as a long-term solution by Brunel as he was concerned it would also allow to compete as a port with Bristol if the railway from Birmingham was extended. The first station was a temporary terminus for the GWR on the west side of Bishop's Bridge Road, opened on 4 June 1838. The first GWR service from London to Taplow, near Maidenhead, ran from Paddington in 1838. After the main station opened, this became the site of the goods depot. Brunel did not consider that anything less than a grand terminus dedicated to the GWR would be acceptable, and consequently this was approved in February 1853. Paddington Station in the Victorian era The main station between Bishop's Bridge Road and Praed Street was designed by Brunel, who was enthusiastic at the idea of being able to design a railway station himself, although much of the architectural detailing was by his associate. He took inspiration from 's and the. The glazed roof is supported by arches in three spans, respectively spanning 68 feet (21 m), 102 feet (31 m) and 70 feet (21 m). The roof is 699 feet (210 m) long, and the original roof spans had two connecting the three spans. It is commonly believed that these were provided by Brunel to accommodate to carry between the tracks within the station. However recent research, using early documents and photographs, does not seem to support this belief, and their actual purpose is unknown. The original station used four platforms, a 27-foot (8.2 m)-wide and 24-foot-6-inch (7.47 m)-wide departure platform, a 21-foot (6.4 m) arrival platform, and a 47-foot (14 m) combined arrival platform and cab road. A series of nineteen turnplates were sited beyond the ends of the platforms for horse and coach traffic. The first GWR service from the new station departed on 16 January 1854, though the roof had not been finished at this point and there were no arrivals. It was formally opened on 29 May, and the older temporary station was demolished the following year. Praed Street facade of the Great Western Hotel (now the ) The was built on in front of the station from 1851–1854 by architect, son of (designer of the ) in a classical and French-chateau design. It opened on 9 June 1854, and had 103 bedrooms and 15 sitting rooms. Each corner contained a tower containing two additional floors beyond the five storeys of the main block. It was originally run by a consortium of GWR shareholders and staff, before the company took over operations completely in 1896. The station was substantially enlarged in 1906–1915 and a fourth span of 109 feet (33 m) was added on the north side, parallel to the others. The new span was built in a similar style to the original three spans, but the detailing is different and it has no transepts. The area between the rear of the hotel and the concourse is called the Lawn. It was originally unroofed and occupied by sidings, but was later built up to form part of the station's first concourse. Paddington's capacity was doubled to four tracks in the 1870s. The quadrupling was completed to on 30 October 1871, in June 1879 and in September 1884. An additional platform (later to become No. 9) opened in June 1878, while two new departure platforms (later Nos. 4 and 5) were added in 1885. One of the lines between what is now platform 5 and 7 was removed, in order that the latter could be moved to a more southerly position. Aside from the June 1878 work, Brunel's original roof structure remained untouched throughout the improvements. The GWR began experimenting with the electric lighting in 1880, leading to Paddington being decorated with Christmas lights that year. Although the system was unreliable, it spurred the GWR on to a more ambitious lighting scheme in 1886, in which a 145V AC supply could light the terminus, office, goods yard and and stations. It was praised for its scale and showing that electricity could compete with on the same scale. Paddington became an important milk depot towards the end of the 19th century. A milk dock was built 1881, and by the 20th century over 3,000 churns were being handled at the station every day. Other goods such as meat, fish, horses and flowers were also transported through Paddington. Passenger traffic continued to improve as well. In March 1906, the goods depot at Westbourne Park was moved to. The main departure platform was extended in 1908 and used for milk and parcels. In 1911, work began to separate light and empty carriage traffic from running trains between Paddington to Old Oak Common, which involved the rebuilding of Westbourne Park station. The work was halted because of but resumed in 1926, to be completed the following year. Three new platforms were added; platform 12 in November 1913, platform 11 in December 1915, and platform 10 the following year. The roof was completely reconstructed between 1922 and 1924, replacing Brunel's original cast-iron columns with steel replicas. Unlike several other London termini, Paddington saw no damage during. Although and were the main stations for military movement during the war, Paddington was used for some of this traffic, and a 24-hour buffet was available at the station. On 1922, a to the employees of the GWR who died during the war was unveiled. The bronze memorial, depicting a soldier reading a letter, was sculpted by and stands on platform 1. Big Four, British Rail and privatisation [ ] The GWR was the only railway company that continued through the grouping in 1923. A tube railway for the Post Office opened in December 1927, that could cater for around 10,000 mailbags every day. Paddington was extended again from 1930 to 1934. Platforms 2 to 11 were extended past the Bishop's Road bridge and a new parcel depot was built. Suburban services, which had never been considered important at Paddington, were increased as new housing estates in the Home Counties started being built. Bishop's Road station was rebuilt, giving an extra four platforms to Paddington (Nos. 13–16) and providing a new ticket office and entrance for suburban services next to the bridge. A public address system was introduced in 1936. By this time, around 22,000 parcels a day were being forwarded from Paddington, with the Royal Mail service processing around 4,500 mailbags and 2,400 parcel bags every day. The station came under attack several times during. On 17 April 1941, the departure side of the station was hit by a parachute mine, while on 22 March 1944, the roof between platforms 6 and 7 was destroyed by two 500-pound (230 kg) flying bombs. Passenger traffic greatly increased through Paddington during the war, partly by evacuation to the relatively quiet, and because holidaymakers chose to travel west as large areas of the south and east coasts had been taken over for military purposes. On 29 July 1944, the station was closed for three hours because the platforms were saturated with passenger traffic, while on the subsequent, crowds were controlled in tight queues along Eastbourne Terrace by mounted police. Statue of Steam traffic began to be replaced in the late 1950s. Between 1959 and 1961, suburban services switched to, while the last regular long-distance steam train left Paddington on 11 June 1965. The track layout was reorganised in 1967, abolishing the distinction between arrival and departure platforms that had been a feature of Paddington since opening. A new set of sidings was built south of Royal Oak, and the track curve into Paddington was eased. Services to the Midlands were rerouted via during this time. The station concourse was enlarged in 1970, and the ticket office was rebuilt in the same year. By this time, public opinion had turned against wholesale demolition and redevelopment of stations such as Euston, and consequently the rebuilding work was done with an eye towards preserving Brunel and Wyatt's original station design. Special steam services began to be run from Paddington again in the 1980s. In 1982, a bronze state of Brunel was erected on the station concourse. It was sculpted by John Doubleday and funded by the. Between 1989 and 1999, the Lawn was re-roofed and separated from the concourse by a glass screen wall. It is surrounded by shops and cafes on several levels. Paddington's ownership was transferred to Great Western Trains in 1996, two years after Britain's railways were. The company was renamed First Great Western in 1998, and merged with and to form the in 2006. In 2015, the operating company was renamed. The station's fourth span was renovated in 2010, involving repair and restoration of the original glazed roof, so that platforms 9 to 12 can once more enjoy daylight. A false ceiling or crash deck had been in place since 1996. Work was completed and the restored roof unveiled in July 2011. A second phase of improvements began in July 2014 and was completed two years later. Network Rail originally planned to demolish Span 4 and build an office block over that part of the station; successfully campaigned against this. Services [ ]. The concourse at rush hour Paddington is the London terminus for long-distance high-speed trains operated. Two services go to: the travels non-stop at a premium fare, while takes the same route but calls at most intermediate stations. The station has 13 terminal platforms, numbered 1 to 12 and 14 from south-west to north-east (left to right as seen from the concourse). Platforms 1 to 8 are below the original three spans of Brunel's train shed, platforms 9 to 12 beneath the later fourth span. Platform 14 is within the 's old Bishop's Road (Suburban) station to the north-west. Immediately alongside are through platforms 15 and 16, used by the 's and lines. The current operator, Great Western Railway, assigns numbers to the pocket timetables it publishes, and its services to Bath, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and South Wales are in timetable number 1. The concourse stretches across the heads of platforms 1 to 12, underneath the London end of the four train sheds. Platform 14 can only be reached indirectly via the north-western end of platform 12. An integrated timetable is offered between Paddington and in Ireland via the ferry from with through ticketing to stations and a daily morning and evening service in both directions, changing at Newport, Cardiff or Swansea. Main articles: and The GWR were aware that Paddington was some distance away from the centre of London, and in 1854 donated £175,000 (£15,074,000 as of 2016) to the in order that the station could have a link to the City. Consequently, Paddington was the original western terminus of the line when it opened on 1 January 1863. An extension to the Metropolitan Railway provided Paddington with a connection to south of the River Thames, opening from Praed Street Junction via a new, to on 1 October 1868. An extension of the to Paddington opened on 1 December 1913, connecting to the Metropolitan Railway's Praed Street station. Because of the history of the various railways, Paddington is served by four lines through two separate stations: the, and lines have a combined on Praed Street to the south of the main line station, and the Circle and lines have a with access from to the north. Circle line services run through both of the sub-surface stations as part of a spiral route. Although shown on the as a single station, the two stations are not directly linked. Synopsis: The Strange Ones is a drama, thriller movie. The movie is about a The Strange Ones is a perfect demonstration of how the craft of storytelling is also the craft of withholding — of revealing as little as possible in carefully parceled-out amounts. Consider the fragmented opening: A man rasping a name that’s barely audible, a teenage boy with his back to the camera staring at a wall of flames. The young writer-director team of Christopher Radcliff and Lauren Wolkstein move on to a mostly silent car ride. Nick and Sam present themselves as brothers, and Sam unconvincingly tells everyone he meets that his name is Jeremiah, but their uneasy bond is apparent to everyone. The movie follows them as they drive across a gorgeous and eerily depopulated rural landscape eating in restaurants and staying at a motel run by Emily Althaus of Orange is the New Black. The co-directors and their cinematographer Todd Banhazl Between Us shoot in a wide format that evokes sense memories of science fiction movies, action films and westerns. They often capture action from disorienting subjective angles as in the shots of clouds scudding by as seen by the boy lying down in the backseat of Nick’s car as he drives. The Strange Ones, 7.0 out of 10 based on 2 ratings.
